Volunteers

WordCamp Europe 2014 needs volunteers!

With more than hundreds of attendees expected at the event, we’re going to need a big team. Volunteers will be on the ground, meeting attendees, helping out with speakers, and helping to make sure that the second WordCamp Europe is even better than the first. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, organised, energetic, and who love WordPress.

As a volunteer at WordCamp Europe, you will:

  • Get an inside look at the planning stages of the conference
  • Be an essential part of the event on the day
  • Spend quality time with the WordCamp Europe organising committee
  • Have the opportunity to meet speakers from all over the world
  • Be on the ground, meeting WordCamp attendees from all over the world
  • Attend a volunteers’ dinner.
  • Exclusive, volunteer-only t-shirt

Note: if you would like to hold WordCamp Europe in your city next year, we strongly recommend that you volunteer at WordCamp Europe 2014. This will help you to understand how the event runs so that you can pull it off in the future.

What Do We Need Help With?

We need people to help out beforehand with general administration, and volunteers on the ground, on the day – expect to be both exhausted and exhilarated by Sunday evening! Tasks that you may find yourself doing include:

  • Processing registration
  • Putting together swag bags
  • Handing out t-shirts
  • Helping out at lunch time
  • Helping speakers
  • Running around with microphones during Q&A sessions
  • Moving people around
  • General administration

Will You Pay for My Expenses?

We are unable to cover expenses for volunteers, which means that if you want to get involved you will need to cover the costs of traveling to and staying in Sofia.

Volunteering at WordCamp Europe is a unique way to contribute to and support the event. It comes with certain perks. If you’re employed, why not see if you can persuade your boss to send you; we’ve put together some pretty compelling reasons to help you persuade them.

Remember that if you volunteer, or are sending an employee to volunteer, you must meet the WordCamp Central guidance for volunteers.

What Should I Expect?

Once you are accepted as a volunteer at WordCamp Europe, you’ll be added to the team’s P2 where you can catch up on what’s been going on with the team. You’ll be encouraged to get involved with all of the ongoing discussions and decision-making around the event. Depending on your skills, you’ll be assigned various tasks to carry out before the event and on the day.

Volunteers should arrive in Sofia on Friday (the 26th) by noon. The whole team will meet to go through the running of the conference, and you’ll visit the venue and the after-party location, and generally familiarise yourself with the locale. In the afternoon you’ll help with setting up the event. That evening we’ll have a little get-together organised. We won’t stay up too late though, as the event will start early the next morning.

On the day, you’ll be carrying out your assigned tasks, working as part of a team that we hope will run like clockwork.

Great! How do I sign up?

Fill out this form and we’ll be in touch soon. We can’t wait to have you as part of the team!
